09What will you give me in writing at the end?A report of what was found and done is useful if you rent or sell.

What the quote should cover

Ask each business to describe the job in its own words, then compare what they plan to do about the cause. Two quotes can look alike while one treats the surface and the other deals with where the moisture comes from.

If a ceiling, wall lining or carpet may need replacing, ask whether that is part of their work or a job for another trade.

Before anyone comes

Take photos of each patch and note when you first saw it, and whether it grew after rain or through winter. Write down any leaks, drips or damp spots you know of.

Clear access to the affected walls and cupboards so the whole area can be seen.
